Vote for the Meathead of the Month

Hannah Boyd became the third U High female swimmer to win a state championship when she earned the 200-yard freestyle title at Evanston. She joined Liz Hobbs (1976) and Suzanne Almeida (1998) as U High state champs.


Vote for the student athlete who you feel demonstrates determination, hustle and hard work and they might be chosen as the next "Meathead of the Month"! These intercity athletes have been selected by Pantagraph staff and school personnel, and are competing for the title of "Meathead of the Month" as well as a $25 Meatheads gift certificate. One vote per day please.

WJBC Athletes of the Week: Nov. 20, 2012

Hannah's first place finish at the state swim meet- has earned her another WJBC Athlete of the Week honor! Hannah finished in first place in the 200 yard freestyle during both the preliminaries and the finals. Congratulations Hannah!

State Swim Meet Results

Congratulations to U-High state swimming champion - Hannah Boyd!

Hannah, a freshman, finished 1st in the 200 yard freestyle (1:49.44) and in the 500 yard freestyle (4:53.31) after the first day of preliminaries.  During the finals on Saturday, she won the 200 yard freestyle and placed 3rd in the 500 yard freestyle (4:52.39). Her 1st place finish time of 1:49.05 in the 200 yard freestyle made her the 6th state champion in Pantagraph area history!

U-High placed 15th overall. In the preliminary round, Brie Hines placed 13th in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.21), Emma Ronczkowski placed 14th in the 500 yard freestyle (5:02.63), and Meagan McManus was 38th in the 100 yard freestyle (53.48).

The Pioneers also claimed 14th in the 200 medley relay, Kira Webster, Brie, Elizabeth Madison, Hannah (1:48.06), 16th in the 400 freestyle relay, Hannah, Liz, Emma, Brie (3:33.70) and 18th in the 200 freestyle relay, Liz, Jennifer Toca, Danielle Ludwig, Meagan McManus (1:38.87).

Congratulations to all of all swimmers and divers on making it to the state tournament. We also have to thank Coach Ryan Burroughs and his assistants for the leadership they provide. Way to go Pioneers!

WJBC Athletes of the Week: Nov. 12, 2012

Freshman Hannah Boyd's performance- at the Sectional meet has earned her a WJBC Athlete of the Week honor. Hannah won the 200 freestyle (1:50.92) and the 500 freestyle (4:58.46) to advance the Pioneer girls' swimming team to the sectional title Normal Community High School. Congratulations Hannah!

Emma Ronczkowski won the 200-yard individual medley to help U High win its seventh straight Intercity Meet championship. She also swam on the Pioneers’ victorious 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle relays.
